On 31 January 2026 SBŠ Ostrava beat KP Brno 87:81 in the Czech Cup final, the first time the club had won the trophy. The result came in a season that also took them to the final of the Central European Women's League (CEWL), where the Final Four ended in an 81:69 defeat to Piešťanské Čajky.

A cup and a continental final in one season are new for a club whose reputation was built lower down the age scale. The name stands for Sportovní basketbalová škola, a basketball school, and it was set up in 1999 and registered on 10 September of that year. In its first season, 1999–2000, the side played as NH Ostrava. The school later won five consecutive Czech Under-16 titles and sent players into the national youth teams, among them Tereza Sedlačková, an Under-16 bronze medallist in 2007.

The European results came in stages. The team reached the Final Four of the EWBL, the regional women's league that preceded the CEWL, in 2022. In 2025 it reached the final, losing 82:80 to Nyon Basket.

Iveta Rašková has coached the senior side since 2020. Since February 2023 the team has played in the SH Ostravské univerzity, a 1,200-seat hall at Černá Louka that opened as part of the City Campus. Among the players there is Nikola Kovačíková, who also plays for Slovakia.

Within the city the opponent is Basket Ostrava, and matches between the two make up the Ostrava derby. Nationally the route to the top of the Czech league still runs through Žabiny Brno and ZVVZ USK Praha.
