«Spar Girona»
The Liga Femenina title that Girona won in 2014–15 came against Perfumerías Avenida, beaten in the final. It had been assembled in 2005 from two neighbourhood sides, Santa Eugènia de Ter and Vedruna. A second league title followed in 2019.
The 2019 season brought more than the league. In September of that year Girona also took the Supercopa Femenina, and in 2021 they added the Copa de la Reina. Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Mitchell, both later WNBA players, passed through the club. Laia Palau, the Olympic medallist point guard, gave her name to the youth academy, now called Bàsquet Girona Uni Laia Palau. Sandra Ygueravide spent years as captain and later won an Olympic medal in 3x3.
The academy has fed the senior side. Júlia Soler, Eva Bou and Marta Xargay came through it. The club played in the EuroLeague Women and the EuroCup Women without winning either.
Most of the sharpest games are close to home. Cadí La Seu is the rival that matters most. The two have met in the Lliga Catalana final and in Liga Femenina play-offs, and the fixture belongs to the wider "derbi català" that also takes in FC Barcelona and Club Joventut Badalona.
Supermarket sponsorship gave the team its everyday name, Spar Girona. Their home is the 5,500-seat Pabellón Municipal Girona–Fontajau, where the home shirt is red with thin black stripes.
In 2022 the women's and men's clubs began by merging their youth teams. That collaboration led to June 2025, when the women's club joined Bàsquet Girona, the men's club Marc Gasol founded in 2014. Gasol stayed as president, and Cayetano Pérez took charge of the women's project.
