About

The Copa de la Reina de baloncesto is the premier knockout cup for women’s basketball in Spain. Organised by the Federación Española de Baloncesto (FEB), the tournament began in 1943, with its inaugural edition concluding in 1943. Historically, the event shifted nomenclature several times: it started as the Campeonato de España Sénior Femenino and became the Copa del Generalísimo Femenina during the Franco era before adopting its current name in 1978. Participation has varied; the competition was suspended in blocks between 1946 and 1977, stabilising into a regular fixture only after 1978.

The format currently involves eight clubs. Qualification is based on performance in the first half of the Liga Femenina Endesa season, with the top seven sides from matchday 15 joining a designated host club. The event unfolds over four days in a single city, featuring quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final. It is a single-elimination contest that does not determine European qualification for the EuroLeague Women or EuroCup Women; those berths remain tied to league standing. Instead, the cup winner secures a place in the Supercopa de España against the league champion.

Perfumerías Avenida (Salamanca) holds the record for major titles with ten wins, including victories in 2005, 2006, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022. Other frequent finalists include Ros Casares Valencia and Masnou Basquetbol/Picadero J.C., both with seven titles. The most recent champion, crowned in 2025, is Hozono Global Jairis, who beat Perfumerías Avenida 67–59 in Zaragoza. The competition distinguishes itself from the league by rewarding a concentrated burst of knockout success rather than consistency over a full season.
