Rehovot

"The Red Devils" went on to earn it, taking the Israeli championship five times between 1954 and 1963 and lifting the first-ever Israeli State Cup in 1959, beating Maccabi Ramat Gan in the final.

That club did not survive into the new century — financial trouble forced its dissolution in 2002. What plays today, Maccabi Ironi Rehovot, formed three years later out of Ironi Rehovot and the remains of local rival Hapoel Rehovot, and it claims the old records and the old following as its own rather than starting a fresh ledger. Promotion back to the top flight, Ligat Winner, came in 2010; relegation followed, and the club spent years working back up before winning the National League in 2024–25 to earn another return to the top division for 2025–26.

Games are played at the Katzir Sports Hall, a 500-seat venue at Katzir High School, after a move from the larger Brazili Hall ahead of the 2014–15 season. Uriel Cohen ran through the club at every level — as player, captain, coach — before taking charge of the national team.

The rivalry that once defined Rehovot handball, against Hapoel Rehovot, ended when the two sides merged into one club. What replaced it runs south along the coastal plain, against Maccabi Rishon LeZion and Hapoel Rishon LeZion.
