Shahrdari Gorgan

Kaleh Mazandaran is the name Gorgan supporters bring up first. The two clubs sit on the same northern side of Iran, and their meetings are known as the "Derby of the North". On the national stage the opponent is different: Mahram Tehran, a club with its own history at the top, which has met Shahrdari Gorgan in Super League finals more than once.

Those finals matter because of how recently Gorgan began winning them. In 2017–18 the team finished 8th out of 9 in the Iranian Basketball Super League. A year later it was runner-up. In 2019–20 it took the regular-season title. The club then won the championship in 2020–21, 2021–22 and 2022–23, and added a fourth in 2024–25.

Perry Petty came in during that climb. He was named league MVP in 2019 and stayed through the first three titles. Arsalan Kazemi, the first Iranian-born player drafted into the NBA, also belongs to the club's story.

The squad is built mostly from the province. Gorgan is the city of Golestan, and the club often fields a majority of players from there. Shahrdari means "municipal", and the team is a city club in that sense. It has not been relegated from the top tier since the Super League began in 1998.

Continental results followed the domestic ones. In the West Asia Super League the Eagles finished as runners-up in 2022–23 and 2023–24. They play in red and white, in the 1,500-seat Imam Khomeini Hall.

The club goes back to 1969, well before any of this. Its first honours came in the pre-Super League era, when it won Division One in 1991–92 and 1992–93.
