Sogdiana

In 2022, while Sogdiana's men were fighting through to an AFC Cup semi-final, the club's women's side went further and won the same competition outright — a confederation title picked up by a team from a city few outside Uzbekistan could place on a map.

That city is Jizzakh, and the club took two decades to settle on the name it plays under now. Founded in 1970, the team went through half a dozen identities — Jizzak, Trud, Irrigator, Buston, Zvezda, Yoshlik — before "Sogdiana" was fixed to the shirts in 1990 and never changed again.

Independence brought an early reward: third place in 1992, the first championship season of a sovereign Uzbekistan. Sogdiana went one better in 2021, finishing runners-up in the Super League for the best league placing in its history, then added another bronze in 2024. In between, the club collected First League titles in 2003, 2007 and 2012 and a Pro League Cup double in 2011 and 2012; further back, in the Soviet era, it had already won its zone of the USSR second division in 1979 and the Uzbek SSR championship in 1972.

Sogdiana now play in black and white at home and blue away, though the nickname that has stuck longest — the Yellows — belongs to a kit nobody at the club currently wears. The fixture that matters most is against Andijan, met more than 40 times with almost nothing to separate the sides — 17 wins to 16, 11 draws — and never settled under a derby name of its own; a longer-running feud with Fergana's Neftchi has passed 50 meetings.

The academy's best-known graduate, Sardor Rashidov, went on to 50 caps and 13 goals for Uzbekistan across spells at Bunyodkor, Al Jazira and Pakhtakor. The 2024 bronze is the closest the club has come to matching its 2021 peak, and closing that last gap to a first Super League title is where Jizzakh's attention sits now.
