Åkeshovshallen
Stockholm, Sweden
Åkeshovshallen is a functional building in the Åkeshov district of Stockholm. The hall opened in 1959. Its design by Åke E. Lindqvist reflects that time. The building has not been left to age without intervention. A significant renovation completed in 2018 by Liljewall Arkitekter updated the facility. This work ensured the space remained viable for its primary users: the Swedish Gymnastics Federation and local basketball groups. Alviks Basketbollklubb plays its home games here, competing in the Superettan Herr league. The hall also hosts regional youth basketball finals and fencing competitions for clubs like Ängby Fencing Club. There is no permanent spectator seating that defines the venue’s identity. The capacity is listed as 1500. It is simply a number for a space that accommodates training and local competition. The hall is owned by Stockholm Municipality and serves as a hub for artistic gymnastics and group gymnastics.
