Sunday derbies in Bromma against Blackeberg once shut down local traffic — the Stockholmsderby, sharpened by geography as much as points, remains the fixture Alvik measures itself against more than any championship season. It is a rivalry built on proximity: both clubs drawing from the same stretch of west Stockholm, both wanting bragging rights over the other before anything else.

That fixture mattered because for two decades Alvik had little else to prove. Erik Bremer and Knut Simonsson started the club on 31 August 1956, and by the 1960s it had become the team the rest of the country's men's league was chasing: nineteen Swedish championships between 1963 and 1995, including seven in a row from 1963 to 1968 that were rarely close. The women's section, formed after the 1996 merger that also produced the Stockholm Human Rights side, added its own titles in 2003, 2007 and 2010, though by then the club was operating under a different name before Alvik Basket re-emerged.

Home games are played at Åkeshovshallen, which holds 1,500 — tight enough that the Blackeberg derby regularly sells out well before tip-off. The club is already looking past it: operations are due to shift to the new arena at Ulvsunda Idrottscentrum, part of the Bryggeriet development, when it opens in 2026 with room for 2,500.

No name from the championship years is repeated more often around the club than Anders Grönlund. He played for Alvik from 1963 to 1977, collected thirteen of those nineteen SM golds, and won 133 caps for Sweden — a run that made him, as much as any trophy, the reason the green and white shirt still carries weight in Bromma.
