Français Volants

The senior team spent six years, from 1998, out of senior hockey altogether, while the club worked only with its youth sides. It re-entered the league pyramid in Division 3 in 2004 and won promotion to Division 2 in 2009.

The club dates from 1933, when Jacques Lacarrière split the ice hockey section off from the Racing Club de France. The name is a British coinage: Français Volants, or Flying Frenchmen, was what the British called French national teams that flew to London for games. Within three years the club had its first French title, the Coupe Magnus of 1936, won against Stade Français. A second followed in 1938, against Chamonix Hockey Club. Those two opponents remained the club's historical rivals.

The club folded in 1948. It was recreated in 1965 by Philippe and Thierry Lacarrière, two of the founder's sons, and went straight back into the French Championship. Philippe captained the French national team at the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble.

The second great period came in the 1980s. After Division 1 titles in 1978 and 1984, the club won the Coupe de France in 1987, beating Mammouths de Tours 8-5. It took a third Coupe Magnus in 1989, against Écureuils de Picardie.

The team plays in the Patinoire Sonja Henie at 8 Boulevard de Bercy, the rink attached to the Paris-Bercy sports arena. It seats 500. Its current local rival is Courbevoie.
