About the player
Alan Franco won the 2019 Copa Sudamericana with Independiente del Valle before Atlético Mineiro paid roughly two million dollars for him in July 2020, a deal that left his boyhood club holding on to 35% of his sporting rights. He had made 62 league appearances and scored three goals there.
Franco was part of the side that won the 2021 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and the Copa do Brasil that same year, adding four Campeonato Mineiro titles in 2020, 2021, 2024 and 2025. Between those triumphs he spent time away on loan, first at Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer, where he made ten league appearances, then at Talleres de Córdoba, appearing 34 times in the league and scoring in the Copa Libertadores. He returned to Atlético Mineiro in 2023 and has held down a starting place since.
For Ecuador, Franco made his debut against Guatemala in September 2018 and has gone on to earn 62 caps, scoring once, against Trinidad and Tobago in November 2019. He was named in the squads for the 2021 Copa América and the 2022 World Cup, then started all four of Ecuador's matches at the 2026 World Cup before the team went out in the round of 16.
