Anthony Briançon

Anthony Briançon's route to professional football took a detour through injury. He joined Olympique Lyonnais' academy in 2009 but left three years later without a professional contract, held back by recurring knee problems. He rebuilt his career at Nîmes Olympique, starting with the reserve side and making his professional debut in the 2013–14 season.

The move that reshaped his career came in 2015–16, when Nîmes switched him from defensive midfielder to centre-back. The repositioning worked: Briançon became a key player and captain, and led Nîmes to promotion to Ligue 1 in 2018. He made 213 appearances and scored 18 goals before leaving as a free agent in 2022, having had knee surgery the previous year.

At AS Saint-Étienne, where he signed as captain in 2022, he again helped a side up to Ligue 1, this time in 2023–24. In a match against Sochaux in January 2023, he suffered a severe laceration to his tibia after colliding with a goalpost. He recovered to be named in the Ligue 2 Team of the Year at the 2024 UNFP Football Awards, though his final season at the club was difficult, limited to a single Ligue 1 appearance before he left as a free agent in 2025.

Briançon signed for Pau FC on a free transfer in July 2025. He has not been capped by France at any level.
