About the player
Axel Dodote's path to professional football ran through Reims before he found his club. Signed by AS Saint-Étienne's academy in the summer of 2022 after two years at the Pôle Espoirs de Reims, the centre-back had begun his football education at Noisiel FC and then US Torcy, where he played as a defensive midfielder before being repositioned further back. At Saint-Étienne he worked through the U16, U17 and U19 sides before settling into the back line, and collected nine caps for the U18 and U19 national teams, including involvement in qualifiers for the 2026 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
His breakthrough at club level came in December 2025, when he signed his first professional contract with Saint-Étienne, running to 2028. He made his senior debut in Ligue 2 that same season, coming on as a substitute against Troyes in November 2025 having previously featured for the club's reserve side in National 3 under Sylvain Gibert.
In July 2026, Dodote moved to Pau FC on a season-long loan without a purchase option, a deal that only went through once Pau's recruitment restrictions from FIFA had been lifted. He has since made five Ligue 2 appearances for the club, starting four of them.
No senior trophies feature on his record yet, and at this stage of his career the loan at Pau represents his first sustained taste of first-team football away from Saint-Étienne.
