About the player
Axel Henriksson scored 11 goals in 20 Ettan Fotboll appearances for GAIS in 2022, and that helped take the club up to Superettan. He was named Superettan Young Player of the Year for 2023.
The route there was not straightforward. A knee injury then ended his season, and he made no league appearances. Häcken did not offer him a new contract, and in March 2022 he signed for GAIS.
His first Allsvenskan season, 2024, brought eight goals in 26 appearances. In May he was named the league's Player of the Month, after scoring in derbies and against IFK Göteborg and IF Elfsborg.
After 12 appearances for GAIS in 2025, he joined Blackburn Rovers on 6 August on a four-year deal. The reported fee was £745,000, with add-ons of up to €890,000 and a 20% sell-on clause for GAIS. He made his Championship debut three days later against West Bromwich Albion, starting the match and coming off in the 58th minute of a 1–0 defeat. He has also played once each in the FA Cup and the EFL Cup for the club.
In August 2026 Blackburn loaned him to Randers FC for the 2026–27 season, where he wears number 21.
