About the player
Axel Kayombo came through Basel's academy and made his mark first with the reserves, scoring 16 goals in 42 appearances for FC Basel II in the Swiss Promotion League before being promoted to the senior squad in July 2023. He also won the U19 Elite title with Basel's youth side. First-team minutes at Basel stayed limited to two Super League appearances, and the club sent him out on loan to FC Stade Lausanne-Ouchy for the 2024–25 season, where he found his scoring form in the Challenge League: 30 appearances in all competitions and ten goals, nine of them in the league.
That loan spell was enough to convince SK Sturm Graz. Since arriving in Graz, Kayombo has been used steadily across all competitions, making 31 appearances between league, cup and European fixtures, though goals have been harder to come by at this level: two in total, one in the league and one in the cup.
Born in Écully, France, Kayombo holds dual French and Congolese citizenship and has represented the Democratic Republic of the Congo at youth level, earning four caps for the U20 side.
