About the player
Billy Kirkman is credited with a Cymru Premier title from a season in which he spent much of the campaign elsewhere. He was on loan for large parts of 2022–23, yet his name is part of The New Saints' championship-winning year. The Blackburn-born left-footed defender had joined the Welsh club's youth setup at under-13 level in 2017, and it was there that he grew up as a player.
His first-team minutes at The New Saints were few: five appearances between 2022 and 2024. Regular football came on loan at Aberystwyth Town. The first spell ran from January to June 2023 and brought 12 appearances. He returned in August 2023 and stayed until January 2024, playing 26 matches and scoring once.
His contract at The New Saints expired in the summer of 2024, and in August he signed for Swindon Town on a free transfer. The move to England did not put him straight into the first team. Soon after arriving, he went on a three-month loan to Weston-super-Mare in the National League South and played 11 games there.
He came back to Swindon in December 2024 and signed a one-year contract extension with the club.
