About the player
Cameron Archer joined the Aston Villa academy at the age of eight and made his first-team debut in 2019, but the path to regular football ran through a string of loans. At Preston North End he finished as the EFL Trophy's top goalscorer for the 2021–22 season. A further loan at Middlesbrough followed before Villa moved him on permanently.
Sheffield United paid a reported £18 million for him in August 2023. His time at Bramall Lane ended with the club's relegation, which triggered a buy-back clause and sent him back to Aston Villa in June 2024. Southampton then paid around £15 million plus add-ons that same August.
In September 2026 he joined Auxerre on a season-long loan from Southampton, marking his debut by scoring against Lyon.
Internationally, Archer has been capped at England U20 and U21 level, scoring six goals in eleven appearances for the U21s. He was part of the England U21 squad that won the 2023 European Under-21 Championship, coming off the bench in the final against Spain.
