About the player
Cem Türkmen made his first-team debut for Bayer Leverkusen on 3 December 2020 in a Europa League match against OGC Nice, which Leverkusen won 3–2. He had been in the club's academy since 2009.
He left Leverkusen in July 2021 on a free transfer to Clermont Foot in Ligue 1, but never played for the French side's senior team. He was loaned at once to Austria Lustenau. Across the 2021–2023 loan he made 26 appearances in the Austrian 2. Liga and scored once, and the club won the league and were promoted to the Bundesliga. He then played 30 matches in the top flight in 2022–23.
In July 2023 he joined MKE Ankaragücü of the Süper Lig on a free transfer. He played 29 league games in his first season there and provided one assist. In 2024–25 he made 17 league appearances, and Ankaragücü were relegated to the TFF 1. Lig. In June 2025 he terminated his contract with the club over unpaid wages.
On 9 August 2025 he signed a two-year contract with Bandırmaspor as a free agent.
Türkmen holds both Turkish and German citizenship and has represented Turkey at youth level: one cap for the under-17s in 2019, and ten for the under-21s between 2022 and 2023. He was selected for the qualifiers for the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
