About the player
Soares signed for SC Austria Lustenau's second team in 2010 and stayed through 2013, racking up 82 league appearances before FC Ingolstadt 04 took him on a free transfer. He started 32 of 34 matches and scored once as Ingolstadt won the 2014–15 2. Bundesliga title and went up to the Bundesliga.
A switch to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in November 2016 never produced a first-team appearance, and within a year he had moved on again, joining VfL Bochum on a free transfer in the summer of 2017. Soares made 139 league appearances and scored three goals for Bochum between 2017 and 2024, adding 11 in the DFB-Pokal, and became a club idol in the process. He made 32 appearances and scored twice as Bochum won the 2. Bundesliga and returned to the top flight in 2020–21.
He joined 1. FC Nürnberg on a free transfer in May 2024, made 15 league appearances and scored once, with his contract automatically extending into the 2025–26 season. In June 2026 he returned to SC Austria Lustenau, the club where his German football career began, signing until June 2028. Every move in his career, from Lustenau to Ingolstadt to Hoffenheim to Bochum to Nürnberg and back again, has come on a free transfer.
