Declan John

Declan John’s career is defined by a restless search for playing time.

His breakthrough came in the 2013/14 Premier League season. He made his senior debut two years prior in the League Cup, but it was in the top flight that he established himself. Despite being part of the squad that won the Championship in 2012/13, he was a youth player then and did not feature in the title-winning campaign. His first-team opportunities followed quickly.

Loans to Barnsley and Chesterfield offered glimpses of potential, but his move to Rangers marked a significant shift. He joined on loan in August 2017 before signing permanently in December. He made 26 appearances for the Scottish side and scored two goals.

Swansea City signed him in 2018 for a reported £800,000. He made just 11 appearances over three seasons. A loan to Sunderland in 2020 yielded no matches.

Bolton Wanderers offered a fresh start on a free transfer in June 2021. This time, the move lasted. He made 78 appearances and scored seven goals. He helped Bolton win the EFL Trophy in the 2022/23 season, playing in the final against Plymouth Argyle in April 2023.

St Mirren brought him in during November 2024 on a short-term deal that later extended until May 2027. He wears number 3. He has represented Wales since 2013, earning seven senior caps.
