About the player
Ella Tonkin's route to Portugal ran through Adelaide United's academy, where she signed in 2019 after coming up through Rosary School and Adelaide Croatia Raiders. In January and February of 2025 she was named the competition's Player of the Month.
Her form for Adelaide also carried her into the Australian youth setup. Tonkin played for the U20 side, earning four caps and featuring at the 2022 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup in Costa Rica, before stepping up to the U23s in 2024 and 2025, including a run at the ASEAN Championship. A senior Matildas call-up has not yet followed.
In July 2026 she left Australia altogether, joining SC União Torreense for their 2026/27 campaign in Portugal's Campeonato Nacional Feminino.
