Freek Entius

Freek Entius arrived at NEC Nijmegen with a goalkeeper's pedigree few of his age group can match: four years in Ajax's youth academy, taking in the U17 and U18 sides, before he left in 2024. Rather than push straight for a first-team breakthrough, he spent two seasons finding his feet through Jong NEC, the kind of route that gives a young keeper regular minutes without the exposure of senior football.

That patience was rewarded in the summer of 2025, when he was promoted to the NEC Nijmegen first-team squad on a contract running to 2027. At 1.97 metres, he has the physical profile clubs look for between the posts, and his early involvement suggested a swift step into competitive action was possible.

Instead, a serious knee injury sustained in September 2025 intervened, sidelining him for close to a year. Entius has since been an unused substitute in Eredivisie fixtures against Go Ahead Eagles, PEC Zwolle and Willem II, as well as in European matches against Juventus and Olympiacos, watching from the bench as NEC tested themselves on the continental stage. A competitive debut for the club, and for the Eredivisie, remains ahead of him.

Internationally, his development has stayed at youth level, including a call-up for the Netherlands' U19 side, without yet extending to senior recognition.
