About the player
Jean Ruiz plays centre-back for Pau FC. Born in Guebwiller, he came through the youth ranks first at ASCA Wittelsheim and US Wittenheim before joining the Sochaux academy, where he won the Coupe Gambardella with the under-19 side in 2015. That same year, he was part of the France squad that won the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, though he remained on the bench for the final against the Netherlands. He later added a cap for the France under-20 side.
Ruiz made his senior debut for Sochaux in the Coupe de la Ligue in August 2016, going on to make 48 league appearances and score once for the club before his move to Switzerland. At FC Sion, he was interrupted by a loan to US Boulogne in 2021-2022, where he made 17 league appearances.
His free transfer to Pau FC in the summer of 2022: he became a key player and captain, making 126 league appearances and scoring five goals for the club. He extended his contract in June 2024 to keep him at Pau through 2026, before agreeing a three-year deal to join FC Metz.
