About the player
João Marcelo Messias Ferreira made his professional debut with Boavista in Brazilian Série D in June 2019, before a permanent move to Tombense in January 2020. A loan to FC Porto B followed in mid-2020, and it was there that the centre-back made 81 appearances and scored 12 goals in Liga Portugal 2 over three seasons.
He debuted in the Taça de Portugal in December 2021.
He has continued at Cruzeiro since, now wearing the number 43 shirt as a right-footed centre-back, having come through his early football at Grêmio and Boavista before the path through Tombense and Porto led him back to Brazil.
