Julien Boyer

Julien Boyer's career has run almost entirely through the lower tiers of French football, built on free transfers rather than fees. Born in Perpignan, he came up through Cabestany and Canet Roussillon before a spell at AJ Auxerre, then returned to Canet Roussillon to make his senior bow in National 3, where he scored once in 16 appearances. A move to AS Béziers took him into Ligue 2, though playing time there was limited to five outings, and a subsequent switch to US Quevilly-Rouen Métropole in National 1 brought only four appearances.

Clermont Foot 63 signed him on a free transfer in June 2020, but rather than settling into the first-team picture there, Boyer spent much of his time away on loan, first at Bourg-Péronnas in Championnat National and later at SC Bastia in Ligue 2. He also featured twice for Clermont's reserve side. It was only after leaving Clermont, joining US Boulogne on a free transfer in January 2023, that his career found its footing.

At Boulogne, the defender became a fixture. He was a key player as the club won the National 2 group in the 2023–24 season, a title that lifted them into the National and then on to Ligue 2. Since arriving at the club, he has made more than 82 appearances, numbers built up steadily rather than in any single standout campaign. He has also played in the Coupe de France with both Clermont and Bastia, without going on to win the competition, and has yet to earn a national-team call-up or any individual honour — his contribution has been measured instead in minutes played and a promotion delivered with Boulogne.
