About the player
Valy Konaté arrived at Cercle Brugge, joining on loan for the 2025-2026 season after signing his first professional contract with the French club in January 2025. The move followed several years at Racing Club d'Abidjan, where he progressed through the youth ranks after starting out at CF Djamourou in Bouaké, the city where he was born. Monaco's interest translated into a fee reported in the region of €1 million.
Before his loan to Cercle Brugge's first team, Konaté had a short spell with the club's reserve side, Jong Cercle, in 2025. The arrangement was extended in June 2026, with Monaco sending him back to Cercle Brugge for a second season. He wears the number 12 shirt and plays as a left-back, a position he has occupied consistently through his rise from Ivorian academy football to Belgian first-team involvement.
At international level, Konaté has represented Ivory Coast at various youth age groups. He featured for the under-20 side in 2024, scoring once in five appearances that included the Maurice Revello Tournament, and has also been capped for the under-23s and the under-17s. He has yet to be called up to the senior national team.
