About the player
Lennart Winkler came up through 1. FC Köln's youth ranks before a spell in Bayer 04 Leverkusen's academy, moving between the U17 and U19 sides in Essen and Leverkusen as a teenager. His first senior football came away from Cologne, at SV 19 Straelen, where he spent the 2022/23 season on a free transfer from the Leverkusen youth setup.
He returned to SC Fortuna Köln on a free transfer, initially registered with both the senior squad and the reserve side, Fortuna Köln II, and started out with the reserves. His path to the first team opened when an injury to Felix Buer left the senior goalkeeping position vacant, and Winkler took his chance in the Regionalliga West.
He has since made himself the club's regular goalkeeper, with 84 senior appearances and the same number of starts spread across the 3. Liga, Regionalliga West and Oberliga Mittelrhein. That consistency was recognised at the start of 2025, when Fortuna Köln extended his contract to keep him at the club until 2027.
