About the player
One season at Arouca in 2015–16 carried Lucas Lima from Brazil's regional leagues into European football. The left-back joined the Portuguese club on a free transfer in June 2015. He finished the campaign as the Primeira Liga's Revelation and its Best Left-Back.
The route to that point was not a straight one. He began at Criciúma and moved to Internacional in 2010. There he collected a Campeonato Gaúcho title in 2012 without playing a senior match for the first team. Regular football came on loan at Paraná, where he scored five goals in 33 appearances and was named Best Left-Back of the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B.
Botafogo signed him in July 2012, and in 2013 he won the Campeonato Carioca, including the Taça Guanabara and the Taça Rio. A loan at Goiás followed in 2014. At ABC in 2015 he won the Copa RN and was picked in the Campeonato Potiguar Best Team, before Arouca came calling.
Nantes paid €1.1 million for him in June 2016. In 2019 he moved to Saudi Arabia, where Al-Ahli paid €6 million.
He signed for Boluspor as a free agent in August 2025 on a two-year contract. In July 2026 he left for Bandırmaspor, again on a free transfer.
