About the player
Mikuláš Bakaľa built his career at FK Železiarne Podbrezová, joining the club's academy in 2015 and working through to a senior debut three years later. He stayed at Podbrezová until 2024, a six-year run in the first team that produced 117 league appearances and five goals.
That first move came in July 2024, when Bakaľa signed for FC Den Bosch in the Dutch Eerste Divisie. He settled quickly into the side, playing 34 matches and scoring twice in the 2024–2025 season. A year later he switched leagues again, joining Polish club Polonia Bytom, where he made 17 appearances in the I liga before his move to Dukla.
Bakaľa plays as a defensive midfielder and he is right-footed. His clearest brush with individual recognition came in 2022, when he was named among the candidates for the Slovak Footballer of the Year award, eventually finishing behind Milan Škriniar. He has yet to add a team trophy to his record.
