About the player
Mickaël Barreto joined Dijon in August 2025 on a two-year deal. The move paid off quickly: with Dijon he won the Championnat de France de National title in 2026, sending the club back up to Ligue 2.
Barreto came through the youth ranks at US Torcy Paris Marne-la-Vallée before Troyes took him into their academy. His path to regular first-team football ran through a string of loans — to Fréjus Saint-Raphaël, AS Cannes and US Avranches — before he settled at Orléans in 2015. That spell became the making of him: he was named the club's Player of the Year for the 2016–17 season and picked up a UNFP Ligue 2 Player of the Month nomination, as Orléans won promotion to Ligue 2.
A move to Auxerre followed in 2017, where he ranked among the league's better creators, finishing the 2019–20 season as the fifth-highest assist provider in Ligue 2. He made 119 league appearances for Ajaccio and helped the club reach Ligue 1, playing 20 top-flight matches in the 2022–23 season.
By the time he arrived in Dijon, Barreto had built a long career in the French lower and middle divisions without ever earning international recognition, his 326 league appearances yielding 35 goals and 18 assists.
