Mariano Gómez

Mariano Gómez arrived at Ferencváros with a résumé built almost entirely on loan spells. He began at Unión Santa Fe, making his senior debut in Argentina's Primera División in 2017, before moving to Europe on loan to UD Ibiza, where he made 23 Segunda División B appearances. Atlético Madrid signed him in 2020 and immediately sent him out again — to Racing de Ferrol, then Algeciras, where he made 34 appearances and scored three goals, and finally to CD Badajoz for 35 more. He spent the whole spell attached to the club's B team.

A move to FC Zürich in 2024 gave him the sustained first-team football the loans had not, with 52 appearances over two seasons. That run persuaded Ferencváros to sign him in January 2026 for a fee of €300,000, on a contract running to 2028. He settled quickly into the Hungarian club's defence, featuring in the league, the Europa League and Europa League qualifying against opponents including Újpest, Győri ETO, Puskás FC Academy, Trabzonspor and Górnik Zabrze, and was part of the side that won the Hungarian Cup and finished runner-up in NB I in 2025–26.

In May 2026 he obtained Hungarian citizenship, a step that raised the possibility of an international call-up. Hungary coach Marco Rossi addressed the question directly in July 2026, saying Gómez would not be selected because he had not yet played enough time in the Hungarian league to meet the federation's eligibility criteria. He remains uncapped at senior level for both Argentina and Hungary.
