About the player
Momoh Kamara scored a hat-trick against Egypt at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, and that tournament made his name beyond Sierra Leone. He finished with four goals and took the Golden Boot. He was also named in the Tournament Best XI and was Player of the Group Stage.
He went to the finals as captain. Sierra Leone's U-20 side had qualified for the competition for the first time, with Kamara leading them. In the WAFU Zone A qualifiers he was named best player. His performances later brought a nomination for the CAF Men's Young Player of the Year award for 2025.
His route to that stage ran through several countries. He came up through the youth ranks at Mattia FC from 2017, moved to Diamond Stars, and in 2023 spent time with Ladegbuwa in Nigeria. He then went to Portugal and joined Leixões. There he played twice for the first team and scored once, and he did not become a regular. In 2025 he returned briefly to Mattia FC before signing for Minnesota United FC 2 in the United States, where he played in MLS Next Pro.
For the senior national team he made his debut in March 2025 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier. By September 2025 he had won six caps and scored once, against Ethiopia.
On 25 March 2026 Kamara joined IF Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan on a season-long loan from Minnesota United FC 2. The deal includes an option to buy. It is his first move to Swedish football.
