Maximiliano Agustín Villa Pereira

Maximiliano Villa's career has been built almost entirely away from Uruguay's biggest stages. Born in Montevideo, he came through Club Carabela before joining Nacional's academy, and he was promoted to the first team in February 2016 — yet he never made a senior league appearance for the club. Instead, he took the more common route out of South American youth football: a move to Spain.

At Girona FC, his time was defined by loans rather than a settled run in the first team. A single Copa del Rey appearance in November 2017 was as close as he came to the top flight there. His time at CF Peralada in the Segunda División B was among his most productive spells away, where he played 33 matches and scored once, while later loans at SD Ponferradina and Villarreal B added senior Spanish football to his record. Girona did make his contract permanent in January 2019, but by 2022 the path back to Uruguay had opened up.

That return brought more regular football. At Boston River he became a fixture, and at Montevideo City Torque he built the longest run of his career, making 74 league appearances and scoring three goals across two divisions. He reached the final of the Copa Uruguay with Torque in 2023/24 and was on the losing side in the Segunda División in 2024.

In July 2025 Villa moved abroad again, joining Atlético Tucumán on a free transfer with a contract running to the end of 2028. He has represented Uruguay at Under-20 level, though a senior cap has so far eluded him.
