Markus Soomets

Markus Soomets made his Estonia debut against Italy. The friendly was played on 11 November 2020. By then the midfielder had spent a season in the Primavera side at Sampdoria and a short spell at Rende Calcio 1968, where he made four appearances.

His route to Italy began in Tartu. He came through the academy at Santos Tartu and played for the reserve side before his senior debut there in 2015. He made 56 appearances for the club and scored once before leaving in 2018. He returned to Estonia for a brief stay at JK Tammeka Tartu, where he played three times and scored twice. He also appeared for Flora's reserve team, FC Flora-2, in 2021.

For Estonia he worked his way up through every age group. He won 18 caps at under-17 level, scoring once, and 20 at under-19. He added ten at under-21, again with one goal, and one at under-23. The senior side has capped him 24 times without a goal as of May 2026. In 2024 he won the Baltic Cup with the national team, and he played in six matches of the 2026 European Qualifiers.

His club career then moved abroad. In December 2024 he joined FC Den Bosch in the Netherlands on a contract to June 2026, and he played 16 times for them in 2025. That July he moved to IK Start in Norway, where he played 28 matches and scored once. In August 2026 he signed for Kolding IF on a contract running until the summer of 2029.
