About the player
Maurice Osei Boakye arrives at Marítimo off the back of a Regionalliga Nord campaign in which he was among the division's top scorers for Hamburger SV II during the 2025–26 season. That form persuaded the Portuguese club to sign him on a free transfer, a move that took him directly from German fourth-tier football into the Primeira Liga.
Boakye is a Hamburg native of Ghanaian descent, which leaves him eligible to represent either Germany or Ghana, though he has not featured for either at senior or youth level.
The Marítimo move stood out for its scale: rather than a gradual step up through German football, Boakye jumped straight to a top-flight league in a different country, and did so on a contract running until 2029.
