About the player
Nineteen goals in the 2021/22 season made Mohammad Mahmoud the top scorer of the B-Junioren-Bundesliga West, the under-17 league, while he was playing for VfL Bochum. He first joined Bochum in 2013 from SpVgg Erkenschwick, moved to Borussia Dortmund for 2016/17 and came back to Bochum in 2021.
The scoring continued at under-19 level. In 2023/24 he scored 16 goals in the A-Junioren-Bundesliga for Bochum. That summer he left on a free transfer for SV 07 Elversberg, signing a contract to 2027.
His first spell away from Germany came in February 2025, when Elversberg loaned him to FC Zürich for the rest of the season. He played for the club's under-21 side and also appeared for the first team in the Swiss Super League. He returned to Elversberg in the summer.
The next move came on 14 July 2026. His Elversberg contract was ended by mutual consent, and he signed for Austria Salzburg on a free transfer, with a deal running to 30 June 2028. On 15 August 2026 he scored against Austria Wien II.
Mahmoud holds German and Palestinian nationality and has played for both at youth level. For Germany he appeared at under-19 level. In 2022 he won four caps for Palestine's under-20 side and scored once. He has not yet played for either country's senior team.
