About the player
Nélio Batista made history in the 2025/2026 season by becoming the youngest player ever to appear for Marítimo's senior team. He came off the bench in the 90th+2 minute against Penafiel, a match that helped secure the club's promotion to the Segunda Liga.
Born in Funchal, Batista signed his first professional contract with the club. Before that senior appearance, he had established himself with Marítimo B, the reserve side, playing as a central midfielder in the Liga Revelação Sub-23.
His progress has also been recognised internationally: Batista has been called up to the Portugal under-17 national team, featuring in qualifiers for the UEFA Under-17 European Championship 2026.
