About the player
Rafael Munteanu is a goalkeeper from Constanța who came through the Gheorghe Hagi Academy, where he played from 2012 until 2024. His youth career ended with two finals in the same season. In 2023–24 Farul's U18 side reached both the Cupa de Tineret and the Liga de Tineret finals, and lost both to Universitatea Cluj U18.
His first senior football came away from home. After joining the Farul squad in 2024, he went on loan to CSA Steaua București for the first half of the 2024–25 season and made seven Liga II appearances. He returned on 31 December 2024 and left again within three weeks, this time to AFC Câmpulung Muscel, where he played eight Liga II matches until the end of the season. Neither loan carried a fee.
He came back to Farul Constanța in July 2025 and became the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2025–26 season, taking the number 12 shirt.
Munteanu has moved up through Romania's youth teams. He won five caps at U16 level, eight at U17, five at U18 and four at U19. In 2026 he made his first appearance for the U21 side. He has not yet played for the senior national team.
