Ruairi McConville

For a young defender, Ruairi McConville arrived at Norwich City. He is one of the few players to make his senior international debut before his senior club debut, a feat compared by media to Viktor Gyokeres. At 193 cm, it is his journey from Belfast that frames his development.

McConville began his youth career at Linfield in Belfast until 2021, before joining the Brighton & Hove Albion Academy. He signed a professional contract in December 2022 and captained the U21 side, making 36 appearances. His path to the first team was interrupted by an injury just as he was due to captain Northern Ireland U19 at the European Championships on home soil. That setback, however, did not halt his progression. He made his professional senior debut for Brighton on 11 January 2025, coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup victory against Norwich City. Notably, he had already made his senior international debut for Northern Ireland on 15 November 2024 against Belarus, prior to his club debut.

In February 2025, he transferred to Norwich City on a five-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee. He made his Norwich debut on 22 February 2025 against Stoke City. As of September 2026, he has made 40 league appearances for Norwich and scored one goal. He represents Northern Ireland at the senior level, having earned 12 caps as of June 2026. He has also represented his country at youth levels, including captaining the U19 team. No major trophies or individual awards have been recorded for McConville at this stage of his career. He is right-footed.
