About the player
Rufai Mohammed spent 2025 at IFK Värnamo, where he became a key player under manager Arne Sandstø. He made 16 league appearances and scored twice, but Värnamo were relegated from the Allsvenskan at the end of the season.
He arrived in Sweden from Ghana. He grew up in the same village as Jalal Abdullai and came through the Inter Allies academy in Accra. In April 2024 IF Elfsborg bought him outright from the club, on a contract until 2028 that was later extended to 2029. The fee was not disclosed. He started out in Elfsborg's U19 and U21 sides, then made 15 senior Allsvenskan appearances for the club without scoring.
In February 2025 Elfsborg sent him on loan to Värnamo for the season. In September 2026 he joined the Serie A club on loan from Elfsborg for the 2026–27 season, with an option to make the move permanent.
Mohammed is a right-sided centre-back who relies on his height and strength. He is dominant in the air and calm when he has the ball at his feet. For Ghana he has played at youth level, including a WAFU tournament with the U20 side.
