About the player
Shunsuke Saito took the long route through Yokohama F. Marinos' youth ranks, staying at Toko Gakuen High School until 2023. He turned professional with Mito Hollyhock on 1 February 2024 and spent two seasons there.
Across 43–48 league appearances he scored nine goals, and in 2025 he was central to the club's J2 League title win, which sent Mito Hollyhock up to J1. His form that year earned him a place in the J2 League Best XI and the competition's Goal of the Year award.
Westerlo signed him in January 2026 for a reported fee of around €450,000, on a contract running to 2029. Some databases list him as a left winger, but Westerlo's own sources describe him as a right-sided attacker who wears number 38.
Saito has also represented Japan at Under-20 level, playing at both the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup and the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
