About the player
San Luca Spitali was part of the 1. FC Köln under-19 side that came back from 0-2 down against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the 2025 final to win the German youth championship 5-4. He started that match. It was against the club where he had spent two years of his youth career, from 2021 to 2023.
Spitali came through the academies of Fortuna Düsseldorf and Leverkusen before joining Köln's under-19s in 2023. A left-footed defender, he held dual German and Italian nationality, though he has not played for either country at any age level. Alongside the youth title, he played in the UEFA Youth League with the Köln juniors.
His step towards senior football came in 2024, when he was registered with the reserve side, 1. FC Köln II. He made his debut in the Regionalliga West in March 2025. Appearances were limited: three in 2024/25 and eight the following season, 331 minutes in all, with one yellow card. He did not score or set up a goal in that spell.
In June 2026 he left Köln on a free transfer for SV Austria Salzburg of the Austrian 2. Liga. His debut came in August 2026 against FC Hertha Wels.
