The squad that walked out for AD Marco 09 in the 2022/23 season carried something heavier than a league table position: closing that gap fell to them. They did it by finishing top of the Campeonato Distrital Divisão de Elite Pró-Nacional, the senior tier of the Porto district league, and with it earned passage back into the Campeonato de Portugal structure.

The club itself has little history to draw on beyond that campaign. It was founded in 2009 in Marco de Canaveses, a municipality in the Porto district, which gives the team its name as well as its home. Matches are played at the Estádio Municipal do Marco de Canaveses , modest even by the standards of the regional football around it.
