Al Riyadh

Riyadh is a city that has grown around the state and the national league in almost equal measure, and its football map is dominated by two much richer clubs, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr. Al-Riyadh SC has spent its life in their shadow, known instead for the derby it fights out with Al-Shabab.

The club traces back to 1953, when it was founded as Ahli Al-Riyadh, later renamed Al-Yamamah before settling on Al-Riyadh. Its home since 1983 has been the Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz Stadium, holding around 15,000 people.

The closest Al-Riyadh has come to a golden era fell in the early 1990s under the Brazilian coach Zumario, who took the club to the Crown Prince's Cup in 1994 and the Federation Cup a year later, with Fahd Al-Hamdan among the players who led that side. The Pro League title itself has never come; a runner-up finish in 1993-94 remains the closest approach, alongside two runs to King Cup finals, in 1962 and 1978, that ended without the trophy.

More recently the club has looked to a different kind of name recognition. The Zimbabwean forward Knowledge Musona joined in 2023, and the Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan was in the squad for the 2025/26 season, coached by the former France international Sabri Lamouchi.
