Anagennisi Karditsas

The title that mattered most in Karditsa came in May 2025, when Anagennisi won Gamma Ethniki and climbed back into the second tier after more than 20 years away. The same season brought the Karditsa Super Cup, and it closed a cycle that had begun in 2020–21 with promotion out of the fourth division — two steps up in four years.

Promotion is old ground here. Anagennisi won Gamma Ethniki in 1992–93 and again in 1996–97, and the first of those titles was followed by the result the town still measures everything against: in the second round of the 1993–94 Greek Cup, Anagennisi knocked out Olympiacos. The furthest run came much later — the quarter-finals in 2021–22, a first for the club, ended by Panathinaikos.

The club dates from 16 October 1904 as a multi-sport society; football was carved out as a separate department in 1924, and the statutes carried the signature of Crown Prince Constantine I. From 1929 to 1962 the team played in an independent Thessalian championship, winning it in 1961–62 and 1962–63, and it was that second title year that took Anagennisi into Beta Ethniki. Professionalism arrived in 1979 and the football side was reorganised; it became a limited company in 1993 under president Konstantos Zarras.

Home is the Municipal Stadium of Karditsa "Antigoni Ntrismpioti", rebuilt in 2016 and holding 13 000. The yellow and black kit gave the club its nickname, Kanaria — the canaries. The fixture that carries most weight is the Thessalian derby against AO Trikala, from the neighbouring town.
