Athens Kallithea FC

Kallithea sits in the southern belt of Athens. Five neighbourhood sides — Esperos, Iraklis, AE Kallitheas, Kallithaikos and Pyrsos — gave up their separate lives in August 1966 to make one team. A sixth side, confusingly also called Pyrsos, joined a year later, and the crest was redrawn: four circles out, five stars in, one for each of the clubs that had signed away its name.

The ground, Grigoris Lamprakis Stadium, holds 6,300 and stands in the district itself.

For most of its existence the club worked the lower divisions, and its trophies come from there. The club's best finish in the first division came in 2004/05: ninth. The Greek Cup has produced quarter-finals — five of them, spread from 1969/70 to 2009/10 — and nothing beyond.

In 2021 a group of investors led by Ted Filipakos bought the club, and in September 2022 the name changed from Kallithea FC to Athens Kallithea FC, putting the capital in front of the district. Two seasons later the team won Super League 2 South and went back up.

The first promotion of all, though, came in 1969, out of a play-off against AO Koropi settled by Yannis Maxouris — a match played under the junta, and one that took on a political colouring the football alone would not have given it.
