The peak came in 1973: the league title, plus a Cup double built on a 2-1 final win over Dynamo Kyiv, then a second Cup in 1975 against Zarya Voroshilovgrad. That side reached a third final in 1976 and lost it to Dynamo Tbilisi, the club's old Soviet-era rival. Behind him, Oganes Zanazanyan captained the side and was the first Armenian to lift the Soviet Cup.
Independence brought one more title, in 1993, and the Armenian Cup became the club's recurring stage — six wins between 1993 and 2020/21, most recently a 3-1 final win over Alashkert.
The club still guards its name closely: when a separate outfit registered as Ararat-Armenia in 2017, Ararat Yerevan objected publicly, treating the name as its own.
