Atlético Choloma filled that gap under the name Atlético Infop before taking its current identity in 2008.

The breakthrough took over a decade. Founded on 1 September 1999, the club spent its early life in the lower divisions before winning the Liga de Ascenso in the 2010–11 Clausura and reaching Honduras's Liga Nacional for the first time. That stay lasted two seasons, 2011 to 2013, with a fourth-place Clausura finish in 2012 as the high point before relegation sent Los Rojos back down under coach Edwin Pavón.

It took until 2024 for the climb to start again. Choloma won the Apertura stage of the Liga de Ascenso that year, then took the Finalísima de Ascenso in 2025 to confirm a return to the top flight, and added the Copa La Prensa in 2025 as well. The forward most associated with the club's history is the Uruguayan Óscar Torlacoff, whose 29 goals stand as the highest tally by any Choloma player.

Two promotions, fourteen years apart, separate the club's only spells in Honduran top-flight football.
