Juticalpa sits inland in Olancho, a cattle and farming department in eastern Honduras.
The Liga de Ascenso titles came in a rush: one in 2012–13, then two inside the 2014–15 season. In 2015–16 Juticalpa won the Copa Honduras. The same year brought a Supercopa final, lost. The league championship itself has stayed out of reach.
The nickname travelled with the club rather than being handed down: supporters and the local press settled on Los Canecheros, and the green of the shirts gave rise to the parallel tags Verdes and Verde del Oriente — the greens of the east, which is how the rest of Honduras tends to place Olancho on the map.
Home is the Estadio Juan Ramón Brevé Vargas, and its capacity of 20,000 says a good deal about what the club represents locally: a ground built to a scale that outruns the size of the town around it, filled on the days when one of the big Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula sides makes the long drive east. For visiting teams, the journey into Olancho is part of the fixture. For Juticalpa, those afternoons are the return on twelve years spent climbing.
