Baník Lehota p.Vtáčnikom

In 1977, a village side from under Mount Vtáčnik took the pitch against Červená hvězda Praha, a Czechoslovak top-flight club, in a friendly, and held them to a 2-2 draw. There was nothing to suggest the fixture would happen: organised football in Lehota pod Vtáčnikom had started only in 1926, under the banner of a youth union rather than a football association, and the village played on borrowed ground.

A proper pitch came only in 1946-1947, dug and levelled by volunteers at Dolný Náklo. When the mining company UB Nováky built a workers' colony nearby, the club moved again, to a new field at Horné Náklo, and took the name Baník — "the miner" — from the industry that had reshaped the village around it. The name stuck even as the football itself stayed amateur: no salaried coaches, players or officials, the local council its main backer to this day. In 1964, the coach Ján Zaťko set up the O pohár SNP tournament, which has run since as a fixture of the local calendar.

The bigger break came in 2025. Baník won the western group of the 3. liga, the fourth tier, then beat MFK Snina on penalties on 7 June to take the promotion play-off, moving up to the 2. liga — the second division.
