Bogota FC

In March 2012, Bogotá FC came close to leaving the city it is named after. Crowds at the Metropolitano de Techo had thinned to the point that the club opened talks to relocate to Montería, and DIMAYOR signed off on the move. The talks fell through before a ball was kicked anywhere else, and the club stayed put in the capital.

It exists at all because of a formality carried out on a single day. On 18 March 2003, Club Deportivo El Cóndor — a side that had been playing in Colombia's second tier since 1991 — dissolved itself and handed its sporting rights and Coldeportes licence to a newly registered Bogotá Fútbol Club. Before that, according to the club's own account of its history, there had been an amateur precursor, Deportivo Sur de Bogotá, competing in the lower reaches of the Bogotá football federation.

The crest changed once, in 2015, when a lion that had featured since 2004 gave way to a plainer winged shield. The colours, yellow and red, come from the city's flag, and the fans go by Los Bogotanos, or Rolos.

No promotion play-off final and no trophy sit in the club's history, which by Primera B standards is a long one. The nearest it came was 2007, when it topped both qualifying groups and reached the semi-final of the Copa Premier. It has reached the same stage three times since, most recently in 2020, without going further. What the club has produced instead is players who moved on: Cristian Dájome, David Mackalister Silva and Andrés Ibargüen, a Colombia international, all came up through Bogotá FC.

The city's own clásico, between Independiente Santa Fe and Millonarios, has never included Bogotá FC. In Primera B, it has kept knocking on the door of the top flight without a settled rival to measure itself against.
